Welcome to PFRO Local 25
“Protecting Ohio’s retired Police Officers, Firefighters and Widows/Widowers belonging to the Ohio Police & Fire Pension Fund.”
Welcome to the Local 25 chapter of the Police & Fire Retirees Association of Ohio. We are a community of retired public‑safety professionals who share a commitment to safeguarding our pensions, staying connected, and enjoying the benefits of membership. Whether you’re a former officer, firefighter, or surviving spouse, you’ll find a supportive network here.
Our Mission
PFRO’s statewide mission is to advocate for the retirement security of Ohio’s police and fire retirees, working directly with the Pension Board and the Ohio legislature. Local 25 carries that mission forward by:
- Monitoring legislation that could affect pension benefits.
- Providing education on health‑care, insurance, and financial planning options.
- Organizing social events that keep our members connected.
Why Join Local 25? President Jeff Leslie Has the Answer:
The reason I got involved with the Akron Area Police Retirees and Widows Chapter 25 in the first place was that upon retirement, I really didn’t miss the job itself as much as I missed the friends I made and the people I worked with and met over the course of my career. What a better way to stay in touch with some of those people than to be a part of our retiree organization. For those of you who already attend our events and have been part of the organization, I’m sure that’s also one of the reasons you participate as well. The police community, whether you were a sworn officer or a spouse of one, is a special community because we all were part of and shared some very profound experiences, good or bad, that most people only hear about on the news and never have to deal with in person. Think about that, and the fact that aside from police officers and firefighters and the military, I can’t really think of any other professions or careers that have retiree organizations and that’s why: It’s because we all share that special bond from those experiences, and that is something no other profession has. So, if you are reading this and aren’t sure if you want to be part of our retiree organization, I ask you to at least come to one of our luncheons and give it a try because I’m pretty sure you’ll see somebody there that you haven’t seen in a while and at the very least you’ll get the best $5 lunch in Akron. If you are already a member, I want to thank you for your participation and I hope to continue to see you at our luncheons.
