Keeping Your Family Informed During Difficult Times
One of our retiree members has created an invaluable tool for planning ahead – the Emergency Resource Template. Developed over 25 years ago, this document was designed to ensure that family members can access critical financial, insurance, and personal information if something happens to you.
Why It Matters
Unexpected events – whether medical emergencies, accidents, or other unforeseen circumstances – can happen to anyone. When they do, your loved ones shouldn’t also be dealing with the stress of searching through documents, accounts, and records to understand your wishes and locate important information.
Having vital details organized in a single, accessible place can make a significant difference during stressful times.
What You’ll Find
The template includes sections for organizing:
- Financial accounts and institutions
- Insurance policies and beneficiaries
- Important documents and where they’re located
- Contact information for professionals (attorneys, accountants, etc.)
- Other personal information family members may need
The file is fully editable so you can customize it to fit your specific situation. It works with Microsoft Word as well as alternative programs like Google Docs and LibreOffice.
About the Creator
This template was developed by a fellow retiree who wanted to help others avoid the burden of disorganized information during an emergency. He continues to refine and update the template based on feedback from long-time users, ensuring it remains practical and comprehensive.
